MA, B ED. Yoga Sivananda Centre, Pilates Level 3 and Barre Concept

Hello, I am a qualified Dance Movement Psychotherapist registered with ADMP and work freelance for centres across Durham including Durham University’s Counselling services. I qualified as a yoga teacher from the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre and have also taught Pilates and Barre Concept for five years.

Sivananda Yoga

This 90-minute yoga class attends to four of the five Sivananda Yoga main principles (proper diet is not covered). The class is designed to develop not only the body but also broaden the mental faculties and spiritual capabilities.

Proper Exercise – Asanas “Steady Pose” are held positions that work on the internal organs and glands as well as the muscles.
Proper Breathing – Pranayama when tapped through specific techniques energy is released for physical and mental rejuvenation.
Proper Relaxation – Savasana when the body and mind is continually over worked, their efficiency diminishes. Relaxation is nature’s way of recharging the body.
Positive thinking and Meditation – helps to purify the intellect bringing a steadiness and concentration to the mind.

Pilates

This 60-minute mat-based class improves flexibility, increases muscle strength and tone, particularly of abdominal muscles, lower back, hips and buttocks. The class addresses body balance through increased stabilisation of the spine, ribcage, scapula and pelvic girdle. Breathing exercises aid control and centring, whilst body awareness techniques improve flow, concentration and precision.

Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP)

Dance Movement Psychotherapy is the use of creative movement in a therapeutic alliance. It uses the relationship between motion and emotion as a vehicle through which an individual can engage in a personal integration towards a clearer definition of self. These sessions have previously proved successfully for depression, anxiety, learning disabilities, ADHD and those clients suffering with dementia.

Saturday 9.30 – 11.00am Yoga
