Let us introduce you to Debs, one of our physios who joined us in September 2020. She is a fantastic physio and women’s health specialist and has training in holistic therapies and yoga too – an abundance of hidden talents! Here, Debs gives us a bit more insight into her life and her career.
Tell us a bit about yourself and the name or nature of your role
Hi I’m Debs, I work as a Physiotherapist here at The Chapel. I graduated with a First Class Honours degree in physiotherapy from the University of Ulster in 2011. I worked in the NHS, and also completed an MPhil researching the impact of fatigue in Fibromyalgia. This process started my passion for holistic and empathetic based physiotherapy approaches and techniques. I trained in Acupuncture and also started building my experience in other holistic therapies and yoga.
After moving back home to the north east with hubby in tow I worked in a local Hospice before starting my family. After having my two wee boys I worked privately, building my interest in women’s health physiotherapy, after my own experiences of pregnancy and birth I completed The Mummy MOT and POGP training.
Tell us more about your work
Now I work with a wide range of clients, from general MSK issues, postnatal/pregnancy physiotherapy and well-being. I am passionate about holistic empathetic care, where each client is treated as whole not just as a condition and working not only to improve outcomes in specific conditions but also to improve overall well-being both physically and mentally.
Who would benefit from coming to see you
Many people! From those with general MSK issues, pregnant women or women after they have had their babies and wanting to help restore and recover. Once you are postnatal, you are always postnatal, there are many issues that affect postnatal women, often that are not discussed or merely accepted as side effects from giving birth, this does not have to be the case, often there is so much that can be done to help!
What are the best bits about what you do
I love meeting people and getting to know them and their stories, I love that there is so much variety and always something to learn.
What are the biggest challenges about what you do
Always wanting to make sure you are giving your absolute best can feel stressful at times, but being in a great team helps, and sticking to time, I get enthusiastic about what I do for sure and sometimes can lose track of time! (or perhaps just chat a wee bit too much!).
Why did you choose to collaborate with Tayloredfit
I really enjoy working in a team, and the team here are all great, with very similar goals and ethos, it makes it a lovely environment to work in
What are your business goals in the next 5 years?
Hopefully still at Tayloredfit, I love learning, I hope to keep learning, progressing and developing new skills to keep helping my clients on their journeys and with their goals. I’d love to train in Craniosacral therapy someday, it’s on the list.
Where is your favourite place to go on holiday?
County Donegal, it’s so beautiful and peaceful with most stunning beaches I’ve ever seen.
Who makes you laugh?
My hubby for sure!
What is your top tip to staying healthy in mind and body?
Exercise you really enjoy, especially if its outside, even the shortest time being in nature is so therapeutic.
Tell us a random, interesting or funny story about you!
I was a preemie baby, I was born at 27 weeks gestation and my Godmother was one of my nurses, all the way back in 80s!
