Craniosacral for Babies and Children
No journey in life is as complex or powerful as the one that brings us into it. Whilst many mums find this process difficult and challenging, for babies, there are a number of processes that can present shock and potential restrictions into the craniosacral system, for example from a difficult or prolonged birth or a caesarian section. We commonly and very effectively treat:
- Sleeping and or feeding problems
- Crying which appears to be more than ‘usual’
- Behavioural problems
- Developmental disorders (e.g learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, asperger’s)
Children generally respond very quickly to treatment as their systems still retain a lot of flexibility, so no matter how old your child is, it’s never too late to benefit from this gentle treatment.

Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage usually begins with working on the the upper back and shoulders. A combination of deep massage techniques and using pressure pressure on release points helps to relax and loosen the muscles. Moving upwards, from the back into the shoulders and upper arms helps release tension in muscles (such as Trapezius and Levator Scapulae) to release stress and tension. This helps to alleviate headaches. It also improves the circulation of the cerebral spinal fluid. Continuing with the upward movement, the scalp is then massaged using techniques that stimulate, relax and revive the entire head and scalp.
Specifically designed for pregnancy, to ease tension and aid relaxation.
Using specific techniques and ensuring your comfort, this treatment can soothe and relieve the aches and pains of pregnancy.

Occupational Health Services
Employees with Musculoskeletal disorders or MSDs affect companies significantly through staff absence and wasted resources. In the reporting period 2013/2014, 8.3 million working days were lost in the UK due to MSD’s (Health and Safety Executive). It is estimated that for every pound that is invested in Occupational Health, businesses can see a return of up to four pounds. Therefore it is essential to have rapid, convenient access to the best care, intervention and advice to minimise the effect on both the employer and the employee’s well being. Typically the majority of employees with MSD’s present to us with low back and neck pain, however our clinicians are highly experienced treating MSD’s affecting every area of the body.
Tayloredfit Physio can deliver Occupational Health physiotherapy and related services to organisations large and small, both in the public and the private sectors. Taylorefit Physio can provide you with a range of services to reduce the impact of MSD’s on both your organisation and the wellbeing of individual members of staff. We can provide these services in a variety of different ways to suit your specific needs. For example we can deliver services on your premises or our premises or a combination of the two In order to minimise barriers to staff accessing the service we offer appointments from 9 am until 8 pm. Companies that we have worked with have reported reductions in staff absence, injuries at work and improvements in staff satisfaction. We can provide these services throughout the Durham region.
The Origins of Acupuncture.
The origins of acupuncture are a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM),
an ancient system of medicines that dates back at least as far as 1000 BC.
It is used all over the world to treat a wide variety of conditions, such as spinal (headaches neck and back pain), upper limb disorders (frozen shoulder, osteoarthritis, tendinosis - tennis and golfer elbow), lower limb knee, foot and ankle, chronic pain.
What are the Effects of Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is used for its analgesic effects (ability to reduce pain), it also actively improves rates of
healing and recovery therefore enhancing treatment outcomes for patients.
Evidence based research to support this is continuing to grow confirming the positive effects of acupuncture.
Our bodies naturally produce pain relieving chemicals such as Endorphins, Melatonin and Serotonin. These chemicals are produced when acupuncture needles stimulate various physiological mechanisms in the central nervous system.
Acupuncture has been proven to speed up then initial inflammatory response to promote secondary healing responses in injury i.e. ligament sprains and muscle tears.

Why is it when you have been so determined and ready to quit a habit or leave behind an unwanted experience do you persist in doing it or experiencing it anyway, as if it is on repeat? Why is it when you have learned all the techniques and you fully grasp the benefits of leaving those negative experiences behind do you continue to find it so hard to let them go?
Why would you appear to sabotage your own progress or health or not have the willpower or strength to do what you set out to do? Because like all of us, it has probably been hard for you to change a behaviour or internal experience that has gotten in the way of you being and doing your very best- change that deep down you know you are capable of?

What is the MummyMOT?
The MummyMOT is a specialist post natal assessment recommended for all women following delivery. Ideally you would come in for assessment from 6 weeks after delivery, but even if you delivered months or years ago, the assessment will still be extremely useful for you.
You will be asked lots of questions in order to get a better understanding of your body and any concerns you may have. Then your posture, breathing, abdominal muscles and pelvic floor function will be assessed in greater detail. The aim is to help you to get back to normal and to prevent long term health complaints related to childbirth.
It is performed at Taylored Fit Physio by Lindsey Graham, a Specialist Women’s Health Physiotherapist. She was trained by Maria Elliot (based at Harley Street London). She is one of the leading experts in Women’s Health Physiotherapy and founder of The Mummy MOT.
Taylored Fit Physio is proud to be one of the few providers of The Mummy MOT in the North East.
What does the assessment involve?
One hour post natal assessment
A thorough and in-depth assessment of all issues related to pregnancy and childbirth. You may have no symptoms at all at the moment or you may be struggling with incontinence, back pain, abdominal weakness, pain with intercourse and other symptoms of childbirth. Either way, this assessment will identify any problem areas and will guide you through a rehabilitation program designed to restore you to good health and normal core function.
Pregnancy can have a major effect on your posture and you can struggle with many problems due to a poor posture. This assessment will highlight problem areas such as weak or tight muscles that may be causing you to adopt a poor posture. Treatment, exercise and stretching can improve your posture and help you to move more freely every day with less pain and discomfort.
It is so important to breathe correctly and so many women following childbirth will have an altered and dysfunctional breathing pattern. As part of the Mummy MOT program, you can learn how to breathe correctly and to make the most of the breaths you take every day. With a correct breathing pattern, your core will be more effective, your bowels will be happier and you will be more likely to maintain that good posture you are working towards.
Separation of the abdominal muscles or Diastasis Rectus Abdominis (DRA) is very common following pregnancy and childbirth. You may have noticed a doming of your tummy in pregnancy when getting up out of bed or you may now be experiencing a weakness of the abdominal corset. Sometimes, DRA can prevent your abdominals from returning to normal after childbirth. With an assessment and diagnosis, you can then find out the right exercises you need to complete in order to get that tummy back.
Pelvic Floor Muscle Assessment
Whether you have delivered vaginally or by caesarean section, you are at risk of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. The hormonal effects of pregnancy and the weight of the baby sitting on your pelvic floor can over stretch the muscles, leading to weakness and dysfunction. Add to this the effects of delivery and the possible weakness of other muscles in your core (such as your abdominals), you are at heightened risk of symptoms such as incontinence and vaginal prolapse. You may not have symptoms at present but it is really important to have the peace of mind that you are doing your pelvic floor exercises correctly and completing a specific muscle training program that will help you get on track for good strong muscles into the future.
What happens after the assessment?
The assessment is designed to identify problem areas that you need to work on to restore normal function and activity.
Following the assessment, we will discuss our findings with you and together you can organise a plan of action. We can work closely, where needed with your GP and hospital specialists, Pilates Teachers, Nutritional Therapists and mental health services should you need an onward referral. You may be advised you need follow up Physiotherapy treatment and rehab at the clinic.
We will provide you with an evaluation summary, that is yours to take away. You will also receive a bespoke post-natal recovery programme, to incorporate lifestyle and fitness goals. This includes specific and safe postnatal exercises to improve stability, posture and core strength as well as addressing nutrition and emotional health/ well being.
If you are advised at assessment and would like to continue with us at Taylored Fit Physio, we can provide specialist Physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation.
