Jodie is one of our awesome clinicians at Tayloredfit Physio and has quickly built her client base and reputation as a very knowledgeable, empathetic and effective physio and sports therapist – incorporating her skill set to treat every client effectively and optimising recovery and outcome. Let Jodie tell you more about herself and find out more about the person behind the profession!
Tell us a bit about yourself and the name or nature of your or role.
I have always been active and into sports, and I believe that this is what first inspired me to become a Physiotherapist, first completing my degree in Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation then progressing to graduating as a Physiotherapist. I find the way the human body works and moves fascinating and having suffered my fair share injuries over the years I fully empathise with the clients I see and know first hand how frustrating it can be to be burdened with pain and limitations due to injury. I pride myself on completing thorough assessments to find the root cause of my clients pain or dysfunction, offer hands on manual therapy to aid with symptomatic relief and prescribe rehab exercises and lifestyle advice for long term relief.

Tell us more about your work
I love what I do as it allows me to pass on my knowledge to people and give them the tools to make healthy changes which will in turn reduce pain and improve performance whether this is in their chosen sport or their ability to stay active with grandchildren. I also offer hands on therapy to help recovery and reduce everyday aches and pains.
Who would benefit from coming to see you?
Those who are looking for information as to why they are in pain and treatment for it, as well as people who are wanting to feel better from a bit of self-care via sports massages. It does not matter if you’re into sports and physical activity or have aches and pain from day-to-day life, I enjoy seeing and treating a range of people and would love to hear more about you and what you do.
What are the best bits about what you do?
I think the best thing about my job is meeting new people and hearing their stories, I always find it inspiring hearing what they do and have been through. Being able to help people feel better within themselves, weather this is by reducing their pain or simply giving them further insight into their condition, brings me a huge sense of accomplishment and the ultimate job satisfaction.
What are the biggest challenges about what you do?
One of the biggest challenges is seeing the pain and frustration that people have and hearing stories where they have been let down by the healthcare system. This really makes me sad as we all as healthcare professionals want to help and provide the best possible care to people but this can sometimes be difficult because of funding or time constraints. This is one of the reasons I enjoy working at Tayloredfit as I am able to give that person centred care and attention that people deserve. Another challenge is when people are slow to progress or see the benefits but this highlights the importance of having a wide set of skills and knowledge so that treatment plans can be adapted accordingly.
Why did you choose to work with Tayloredfit?
It was clear from their website that they really care about their clients and offer a range of treatments through a variety of specialist practitioners. When I visited the clinic I got really good vibes and Vicky & Mark were so welcoming and it was evident that they have masses of knowledge and experience that I could call upon when needed.
What are your professional or personal goals in the next 5 years?
Professionally I hope to continue flourishing in the private sector and to continue adding to my skill set by undertaking further training and courses including finishing my Strength & Conditioning coaching qualification and learning more about craniosacral therapy from Vicky here at the clinic! I love to learn and want to have as much knowledge and as possible to continue being a good physio for my clients. Personally I look forward to more travelling and more physical challenges such as the Hyrox event I’ve entered at the end of the year. I also aim to be able to surf within the next 5 years, having had my first lesson last week…

Where is your favourite place to go on holiday?
I don’t have one specific favourite holiday destination, but I love to explore new places and I’m a sucker for anywhere that has beautiful scenery! I have a couple of particular trips that are highlights in my life. One being my trip to Nepal where I travelled alone and spent a week living in a Monastery there, learning about Buddhism and meditation before trekking to Everest Base Camp. The second is the road trip I took last year through the Italian Dolomite mountains.

Who makes you laugh?
I love to laugh and thoroughly enjoy a night at a comedy club. Aside from the professionals, I always laugh with friends and think it’s important to do so and have good people around you to share your laughter. My dog Max also makes me laugh regularly as he’s a real character and often behaves like a mischievous toddler despite weighing almost 50kg!

What is your top tip to staying healthy in mind and body?
I think it is important to take time for yourself and to ask yourself what you need. We live in a busy, chaotic world and often end up getting caught up in the day-to-day where it can be easy to self-neglect. I also believe that movement is medicine (a very physio answer, I know!) but if you take some time for yourself and move when you don’t NEED to – I.e take a short walk or hit the gym for your own well-being then I truly believe that this can be the key to feeling more healthy & positive within yourself.

Tell us a random, interesting, or funny story about you!
Last year I took a solo trip to Kefalonia where I did 2 weeks of voluntary conservation work helping the sea turtles during nesting season. I knew nothing about turtles but learned a lot and now have a bunch of knowledge that I will probably never use again. The other volunteers were studying for marine biology courses or similar & were a little confused as to why I was there! But I had an amazing time and managed to give a little something back to the planet whilst getting a cracking tan!
