MARK SMITH

Bsc Hons,MCSP, MAACP
Physiotherapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Acupuncture and Pilates

My journey to physiotherapy began when I studied Sport Science from 1994-1996 in my native Leeds. During this course a physiotherapist came and did a lecture and I was inspired to find out more. I enrolled to study physiotherapy, graduating in 1999 with a BSc Honours Degree in Physiotherapy from Northumbria University. My career involved initially working for 18 months in the NHS at the Freeman Hospital, gaining valuable experience. I then spent 2 ½ years in the private sector, working in GP practices, sports team (particularly cricket and rugby) and high street clinics, before returning to the NHS at the University Hospital of North Durham in post as Clinical Specialist in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy since 2005. This role allows me to assess and manage patients from assessment to diagnostics, if required. I am able to refer directly to consultants, refer for MRI and further investigations. I also use injection therapy if indicated. I have worked alongside my wife Vicky at Tayloredfit Physio since 2014.

I have continued to gain knowledge and expertise, training in Acupuncture, Manual Therapy (MACP), Orthopaedic medicine, Injection Therapy, enabling enhanced clinical reasoning, diagnostic and treatment modalities.  I have also integrated Craniosacral therapy into my practice since 2014 and in the last two years have incorporated Pilates instruction to my skill set to further enable clients to reach their potential.

I am dedicated and passionate in helping people achieve their personal targets and goals whether that be to recover from an acute sports injury and return to sport, or helping to understand and manage chronic conditions. I have particular interests and expertise in treating sports injuries, spinal (neck, lower back and Sacro-iliac joint) and headaches.

Let me know if I can help you.
